Cross Country Round Three

5th Feb 2018

On the 26th January our cross country team participated in round three of the Flavhan’s cross country competition. Our girls’ team put in an excellent performance to finish fifth overall. Eabha McElhinney ran a great race to finish fifth overall out of one hundred and eleven runners, while Aoibheann Mullan from year six had a fantastic run to finish twenty first. The boys’ team finished in sixth place overall, with Paddy Higgins winning our first cross country medal with a wonderful third place finish. Cathair Murphy and Daithi McCloskey also ran great races to finish fourteenth and seventeenth out of one hundred and fifteen athletes.

We also had seven pupils who participated in the Fun run for the first time, with three boys in the top ten in the boys’ race and our two girls finishing in the top twenty. Grainne McElhinney from year five showed that her sister Eabha has competition in the family by finishing fourth overall in her first ever representative race for the school.

All our runners have displayed remarkable progress over the course of all three races this year. They have displayed great commitment and dedication to training, which has been rewarded with the qualification of Eabha McElhinney, Paddy Higgins and Daithi McCloskey for the Northern Ireland finals at Mallusk on the 21st February, a remarkable achievement in our first year participating in cross country. Well done to all our athletes.
